The faults of diesel generating units have certain symptoms, some of which can be heard. The staff of the generator manufacturers summarized the following rules to help you master the method of judging the faults of the units by sound.

At the early stage of development, diesel generators are noisy and smoky. They can only be used in agricultural machinery which needs large traction. With the development of diesel engine technology, many imported cars now have diesel engine models to choose from. A well-designed diesel engine has a much more pleasant sound. Because it is different from a gasoline engine in structural characteristics, it is easy to judge where the fault occurs by some characteristic sound.

(1) Diesel engine sounds regularly and continuously, usually with faults in rotating parts. If there is a continuous knock, it often occurs in the timing gear, flywheel and other parts.

(2) Diesel engines emit irregular intermittent noises. Generally, engine accessories are faulty, such as generators, starters, air compressors, water pumps, etc. Installation is not strong or internal scratch sounds.

(3) The abnormal noise occurs once when the diesel engine rotates. Generally, the parts related to the crankshaft, such as piston, piston pin, piston ring and connecting rod bearing, are faulty.

(4) The abnormal noise of diesel engine occurs once every two revolutions. Generally, the parts related to camshaft are faulty, such as valve, push rod, valve spring and timing gear.
